Vernon Leroy Burk, age 77, went peacefully, with loved ones near him, to be with his Lord on November 29, 2023. He was born on February 20, 1946, in Billings, Montana. He lived in Longview, TX where he had lived since he was 19 years old. Vernon was kind, patient, humble and not easily provoked.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Ann Moore-Burk. He is also survived by his brother Larry Burk and sister-in-law Linda; his sister, Vivian Sharp; his children: Rachel and son-in-law Timothy Roden, Rebekah and son-in-law James Lundquist, Ruth and son-in-law Paul Glass, Rhoda and son-in-law Terry Cerliano, and Thomas Burk. Vernon was a proud grandfather to Kendra, Vannan, Joel, and LaRue Roden; Jonathan & Courteney Lundquist; Christopher & Jasmine Lundquist; Karen, Robert, Sarah, Michelle, Mary, Matthew, Hannah, Stephen, Samuel, Joseph, Timothy, and Grace Lundquist; Shianne, Marriana, Miya, Jade, and Rosalind Glass; Anthony, Alex, Avery, and Valarie Cerliano; Kasey and Kaleb Moore; Sydney & Quintin Stauts; and Morgan & Tj Ingram. He was also a great-grandfather to Arya Lundquist and Lukasey Lundquist.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, DeLorman and Gertrude Burk; his wife of 42 years, Ruedean Burk; his granddaughter Jennifer Lundquist, and his brother-in-law David Sharp; bonus son Kris Moore.
Vernon served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He served with the 507th TC aircraft maintenance and received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Sharpshooter Badge.
Vernon worked as a machinist for 58 years in Longview, Gilmer, and Kilgore, Texas. He also served as the commander of the 1st Awana Clubs in Longview and was a foster parent for 14 years. Vernon & Ann had a passion for ministering to the homeless. God has used him to impact many lives for the glory of God.
Vernon worshipped at various churches throughout his life, and was attending Judson Community Baptist Church.
In his free time, Vernon enjoyed camping, traveling the Hill country, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and exploring family history. He had a love for storytelling.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 4, at 2pm at Rader Funeral Home, located at 401 N. Martin St, Kilgore, Texas. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation on Sunday, December 3 from 5 pm at the same location.
