Walter Roland Sanders

Funeral services for Walter Roland Sanders, 80, of New London, will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Home Baptist Church of Kilgore with Reverend Riley Pippen officiating. Interment will follow in the Danville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1p - 2p at Forest Home Baptist Church. Mr. Sanders completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, in Longview.

Roland was born on December 18, 1940 in Overton, he was the son of O.E. “Bud” and Virginia Sanders. He graduated from London ISD, Class of 1959. After high school Roland continued his education and football career at Kilgore College and East Texas State University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. National Guard. Before his retirement he worked in the oil and gas industry. He married the love of his life Cecilia Wilson on August 1, 1992, and they spent the next 29 years making many loving and happy memories. He was a faithful member of Forest Home Baptist Church for many years. Roland was an avid sports fan, watching basketball, baseball, and football games. Roland attended every Kilgore College football and Basketball game for more than 30 years and had his own seat for these events. He loved to spend his free time golfing and bird hunting. Spending precious time with his family was when he was happiest.

He was reunited with his parents, and brother Larry Sanders.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cecelia Sanders of New London; children, Michelle Posey and husband Brian Posey of Liberty Hill, Shane Sanders, and wife Sarah Sanders of Liberty Hill; bonus children, Jim Scott and wife Helena of Edina Minnesota, Michael Scott and wife Jenny of Plano, Bobby Scott of Woodson; grandchildren Courtney, Ava, Megan, Cole, Liberty, James, Brittany, Shannon, Travis, Jordan, Logan; great-grandchildren Cason, Lacy and Laila. Also, left to carry on his legacy are numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other loving family members.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to Kilgore College Athletics, 1100 Broadway, Kilgore, TX, 75662; or the New London Museum, PO Box 477, New London, TX, 75682.
