WAYNE BASS
Services at the graveside for Mr. Wayne Bass, 82, of Kilgore will be held at 11 a m on Saturday, December 28, 2019 in the Hickory Grove Cemetery with Rev. Mark Fried officiating and under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 until 7:30. Mr. Bass completed his earthly journey in his home on December 24, 2019 following a yearlong battle with Leukemia.
Wayne was born on December 17, 1937 in Waskom to Grady and Marie Bass. He graduated from Kilgore High School in 1956. He met the love of his life, Sue Nell Christian when they were 14 and they married in July of 1956. Wayne and Sue Nell spent 66 years making many happy and loving memories. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 until he retired at age 55. After retirement he had his own lawn mowing service and continued to mow for people and businesses until his health began to decline. Being an avid sportsman, he played basketball and baseball while in high school. His true sports passion was golf and he could be found on a golf course often. Wayne was a lifelong member of Forest Home Baptist Church, following many generations of his family who have been an integral part of this congregation. His family was the source of his strength and spending time with them was when he was happiest.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue Nell Bass of Kilgore; children, Larry Bass and his wife Dianne of Tyler, Tony Bass and his wife Sharon of Kilgore, Terri Downing of Kilgore; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also, left to carry on his legacy are numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other loving family members.
The family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Texas Oncology- Longview Cancer Center and to Hospice of East Texas for their loving and compassionate care of Wayne during the final days of his earthly journey.
